The Brummies hail not from the English city of Birmingham but a town of the same name in Alabama. These southern origins may suggest that the band plays roots music—especially since Jacob Bryant and John Davidson first found success as country songwriters, penning the Band Perry’s 2013 hit “Done”—but their music defies easy categorization
Their 2018 debut album, Eternal Reach, is a lush pop record steeped in classic rock, AOR, and yacht rock traditions, while their follow-up, Automatic World (2020), leans into dreamy, atmospheric rock.
The band consists of Jacob Bryant (vocals/guitar), John Davidson (vocals/guitar), Trevor Davis (drums), and Warren Lively (bass). Bryant, Davidson, and Davis first began playing together as the band John & Jacob, releasing an independent eponymous album in 2014. Their single “Be My Girl” was featured on the TV series Nashville, and they gained momentum while touring with Kacey Musgraves on her Same Trailer Different Park tour. After the tour wrapped in 2015, the band rebranded as The Brummies—named after the slang term for natives of Birmingham, England. Bassist Warren Lively later joined, solidifying the lineup.
Since then, The Brummies have continued to evolve, writing and collaborating with a wide range of artists while maintaining a steady stream of releases. They are currently releasing new music with their third album set to arrive this year.
